A few years ago, my father-in-law, Captain Douglas Smith, lugged out tray after tray of photo slides to show me. He had a story of serving in the United States Army, stationed in Vietnam. And he told that story through a camera lens, taking hundreds of photos to document his life there. He wanted nothing more than to preserve those faded slides and the memories contained within each one. So eventually, we did it. Scanned and color corrected and a tiny bit of restoration. Although, truth be told, I didn’t want to change them too much. They should stand as a moment in time, flaws and all. This is what he saw. This is his story in pictures.
